Time is the New Currency

Next week, thousands of runners will line up for the Boston Marathon. And every year, it makes me pause. Because running has always been part of my life. I come from a family of runners.
My husband is in the Hall of Fame for his college alma mater. Both of my kids went on to become Division I athletes. And at the end of this month, my daughter will run her fourth marathon in London. There was a time when I ran too. Not at that levelโbut it was part of who I was.
These days, Iโm more of a walker. And if Iโm being honestโฆ that shift hasnโt been entirely easy.
Because itโs not just about running. Itโs about identity.
Itโs about the quiet realization that the things that once defined youโฆ evolve.
But hereโs what hasnโt changed:
Iโve had a front-row seat to what movementโconsistent, intentional movementโdoes for a life. Not just physically. But mentally. Emotionally. It gives people structure. It gives them purpose. It gives them something to show up for.
And thatโs why the Boston Marathon is more than a race to me. Because among those runnersโฆ Are people in their 60s. 70s. Even 80s. Still moving. Still striving. Still showing up.
Now compare that to what most people experience: We retire in our 60's. Health begins to decline in our late 60s to early 70s. Which means: We may only get ๐ญ๐ฌโ๐ญ๐ฑ ๐๐ฟ๐๐น๐ ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ, ๐ต๐ถ๐ด๐ต-๐ฒ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ด๐ ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ to do everything weโve been putting off
And yetโฆWe treat our physical health like itโs optional. Something weโll get to later. But later comes faster than we think. What Iโve come to believeโthrough my work and my own lifeโis this:
๐ฃ๐ต๐๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐น ๐ฉ๐ถ๐๐ฎ๐น๐ถ๐๐ ๐ถ๐๐ปโ๐ ๐ท๐๐๐ ๐ผ๐ป๐ฒ ๐ฝ๐ถ๐น๐น๐ฎ๐ฟ.
Itโs the foundation everything else rests on. Because without it: Your world gets smaller Your options get fewer And the life you imaginedโฆ quietly changes. But with it? You extend your independence. Your confidence. Your ability to fully live the life youโve worked so hard to build.
Watching my family runโฆ Watching whatโs possible for people who keep movingโฆItโs a constant reminder: Weโre not just preparing for how long weโll live.
Weโre preparing for ๐ต๐ผ๐ ๐๐ฒ๐น๐น weโll live.
